Were recruiting an experienced Electrical Controls & Automation Engineer (Nights) for one of our prestigious clients based in Telford!
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly automated, modern manufacturing site within a fast-paced production environment. Youll take ownership of automated systems, robotics, PLCs, and vision technologies, helping drive operational excellence through advanced diagnostics, upgrades, and continuous improvement.
Were looking for a technically skilled, hands-on engineer with a background in controls, automation, and electrical fault-finding, ideally within high-volume manufacturing, castings, or automotive sectors.
This is a Full-Time, Permanent position!
What youll be doing
- Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of automated production lines, robotic cells, and PLC-controlled equipment
- Develop and modify Siemens TIA Portal & S7 PLC and WinCC/WinCC Flex projects
- Work extensively with ABB robots (IRC5) and assist with end-of-arm tooling optimisation
- Drive continuous improvement activities across manufacturing processes using lean tools (OEE, 5S, Poka Yoke)
- Conduct root cause analysis (e.g. 8D) and support problem-solving across technical departments
- Manage software version control, technical documentation, and standard work instructions (SWIs)
- Support vision systems optimisation and implementation for quality control
- Collaborate cross-functionally to introduce process changes, manage automation projects, and improve productivity
- Extract and analyse process data to inform decision-making
- Coach and mentor production and maintenance staff in control systems and automation best practices

MondayFriday 22:00pm-6:00am
Pay
£66,500 – £73,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Skills/Experience Required
Essential
- Qualified to HNC level or higher in Electrical / Manufacturing Engineering
- Proven hands-on experience in a controls/automation role within manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of ABB robotics (IRC5)
- Proficient in Siemens S7 / TIA Portal PLC programming
- Experience developing Siemens WinCC / WinCC Flex HMI projects
- Confident troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, OEE, and error-proofing methods (Poka Yoke)
- Familiar with root cause analysis, including 8D methodology
- Experience in process change management and data analysis
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to train and support others
Desirable
- Experience in robotic end-of-arm tooling design and function
- Familiarity with VSM (Value Stream Mapping)
- Previous experience in a Tier 1 automotive environment
- Exposure to APQP, PPAP, and Run at Rate processes
- Experience applying a methodical DOE (Design of Experiments) approach
- Broader mechanical and pneumatic fault-finding ability
