We are looking for an experienced, qualified accountant to take ownership of a varied client portfolio and play a key role in the continued growth of the practice. For the right person, this role offers a long-term career path as the practice grows.
What you will be doing:
- You will inherit an established portfolio of owner-managed businesses across a wide range of sectors, acting as their main point of contact and trusted advisor.
- You will manage your clients from start to finish. Day to day, that means:
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies (FRS 102 Section 1A), sole traders, and partnerships.
- Preparing corporation tax returns and self-assessment tax returns.
- Handling VAT returns and advising on VAT treatment.
- Managing your files from start to finish, producing work that is ready for partner review with minimal rework.
- Building strong client relationships, managing expectations, and communicating proactively.
- Mentoring and supporting the development of junior team members.
- Staying current with regulatory changes, including MTD for Income Tax.
- Contributing to the practice's growth by identifying opportunities to add value for clients.
This is a senior, hands-on role. You will have autonomy over your workload and direct client relationships, and we will look to you to lead by example on quality and client service.
What we are looking for:
- Essential: ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualified (full membership, not affiliate status).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a UK accountancy practice.
- Strong year-end accounts preparation experience across a range of entity types.
- Confident preparing corporation tax computations and self-assessment tax returns.
- Solid understanding of VAT, including for non-VAT registered clients.
- Able to manage a portfolio with minimal supervision and take ownership of files from start to finish.
- Clear, professional communication with clients and colleagues.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members.
- Desirable: Experience with cloud-based accounting and practice management software.
- Experience with MTD for Income Tax.
- Exposure to SEIS/EIS, director loan accounts, and s455 tax.
