The energy transition is the biggest infrastructure buildout in human history. Modo Energy is the data platform at the centre of it. We build the benchmarking, forecasting, and valuation tools that the world's most serious energy investors, developers, and operators depend on to make decisions. If a battery gets financed, built, or traded anywhere in the world, there's a good chance Modo data was in the room. Founded in 2019, we’re 75+ people across London, New York, Sydney, and Madrid; $30M Series B, AI-native, and moving fast. This is a rare chance to join a category-defining company at the moment it’s scaling globally.

The Role

We’re hiring a Frontend Engineer to lead the architectural evolution of our UI. You’ll define the design patterns, component abstractions, and typing contracts that allow the wider engineering team to ship features quickly without compromising the architecture. Our frontend is where massive datasets, predictive models, and AI systems become usable - fast, data-heavy interfaces that let users explore energy markets, interrogate datasets, and interact with complex forecasting models in real time. The stack is TypeScript, React, and Next.js in a modern monorepo architecture built for rapid, AI-assisted development.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the technical direction for our frontend monorepo - state management, routing, and module boundaries within Next.js and TypeScript
  • Design and develop our internal UI component library (built on MUI) - reusable, strictly typed abstractions that serve as building blocks for the engineering team and AI agents
  • Build and improve high-performance, low-latency interfaces - profiling performance, minimising re-renders, and keeping the platform responsive under heavy data loads
  • Set the architectural patterns and coding standards that govern development, including oversight of high-volume AI-assisted contributions
  • Act as the primary technical authority for frontend - guiding the team on UI best practices and effective use of AI coding tools

What We’re Looking For

The Essentials

  • 3+ years of professional frontend development experience
  • Hands-on experience with Next.js
  • Experience with Material UI (MUI) or a comparable component library
  • Strong eye for UI/UX - you can bridge the gap between design and engineering and build polished, production-quality interfaces
  • Solid understanding of testing principles with frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Playwright
  • Proficient with Git, Docker, and CI/CD workflows
  • Familiarity with monorepo structures and tools (Turborepo, Yarn Workspaces, or similar)

Nice To Have

  • Familiarity with Python and/or energy forecasting models
  • Experience in energy markets or data-heavy analytical products
  • Startup or scale-up background
