We are seeking an energetic and commercially minded Financial Controller to join our ambitious, fast-growing organisation. This is a newly created position that sits at the heart of our finance function, with direct reporting responsibility to the Directors. Our activities span games and book publishing, distribution, product manufacture, and related consumer products. You will be stepping into a dynamic environment where no two days are alike, and where your contribution will be visible and valued from day one.
This role has primary responsibility for leading all aspects of the accounting function across three group entities. Your remit will include developing procedures and controls aligned to accounting standards and best practice to ensure the timely production of statutory and fiscal reporting, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. You will also work closely with the team taking direct ownership of their development including the new post of a Senior Financial Analyst to help strengthen business performance insight.
We are looking for a well-rounded individual who combines technical rigour with strong interpersonal skills. A self-starter who communicates with clarity and confidence and brings energy and initiative to everything they do. You will thrive in a collaborative, largely virtual environment (with occasional office attendance in Fulham, London), and be equally comfortable working independently. A strong problem-solver, resilient under pressure and an effective team player.
Salary: Competitive + Bonus
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end accounting function across all three group entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Develop, document, and implement best-practice accounting processes and internal controls.
- Prepare statutory accounts to audit standard and manage the annual audit process.
- Ensure up-to-date, compliant reporting under UK GAAP / FRS 102.
- Oversee VAT accounting and reporting obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage all aspects of operational accounting for the import and export of both physical and digital products.
- Work collaboratively with the wider organisation to develop timely, efficient reporting that improves business performance insight.
- Drive the performance and professional development of four direct reports.
- Report directly to the Directors, providing clear financial insight to support decision-making.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Small team leadership including remote management skills.
- Current UK GAAP knowledge and strong FRS 102 experience.
- Preparation of statutory accounts to audit standard.
- VAT accounting and reporting.
- Developing accounting processes and procedures.
- Fast-paced SME trading company environment.
- Manufacturing/Retail/logistic company accounting practices.
- Proficient with accounting software and financial reporting tools.
