We are looking for a seasoned and strategic Director, Site Engineering to lead Engineering and Facilities at the Moderna Innovation and Technology Centre (MITC) in Harwell, Oxfordshire. Reporting to the Site Head and the SVP of Global Engineering, you will shape the future of this new site, which includes GMP drug substance manufacturing and an R&D laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Represent Engineering and Facilities on the Site Leadership Team, influencing cross-functional decisions.
- Lead technical execution and strategic alignment of engineering operations in manufacturing and R&D.
- Ensure compliance and performance of infrastructure and utilities systems, including HVAC, utilities, power, WFI, and steam.
- Deploy new technologies and equipment in collaboration with global partners.
- Promote continuous improvement in process robustness, asset reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Manage delivery of facility services aligned with Moderna’s global strategy.
- Ensure compliance with MHRA, EMA, FDA, and internal standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Lead lifecycle management for site equipment and systems.
- Develop maintenance strategies to maximize uptime and asset longevity.
- Oversee compliance documentation, deviations, CAPAs, SOPs, and change controls.
- Support audits and inspections, ensuring readiness.
- Collaborate with Quality, Digital, EHS, and Manufacturing teams.
- Engage in global forums to align site operations with standards and best practices.

- 7+ years in engineering leadership managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Expertise in process engineering, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
- Experience in technology transfer, equipment commissioning, and new technology implementation.
- Strong facilities and utilities management background.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards (MHRA, EMA, FDA) and audit support.
- Leadership and influencing skills in global, matrixed organizations.
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
