Position Purpose

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for delivering high-quality radiologic procedures for diagnostic interpretation. This role includes providing patient education, ensuring quality patient care, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Oversee the daily operations of the women's health section within the radiology department.
  • Propose improvements to procedures, policies, and quality initiatives; coordinate training and development in breast imaging specializations.
  • Adhere to all FDA guidelines applicable to the mammography section.
  • Maintain thorough records for all accreditation processes and inspections.
  • Implement a structured reporting system for accurate audit reporting, statistical tracking, and resolution of workflow issues.
  • Ensure completion of daily quality assurance and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Exhibit advanced knowledge of mammography imaging procedures.
  • Perform examinations in line with Imaging Department Protocols or as directed by the Radiologist.
  • Practice radiation safety, complying with ALARA standards.
  • Consistently operate equipment following the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and contact service engineers for significant malfunctions.
  • Verify exam orders, identify patients through two forms of identification, and provide educational information about their exams.
  • Document the patient’s medical history, secure informed consent, and ensure all necessary paperwork and prior studies are accessible for Radiologist interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate patient records within the electronic health record systems, including the charging of procedures and supplies.
  • Assist in other functions within the clinic as needed; further training will be provided if required.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting other modalities, adjusting schedules, and taking additional shifts as necessary.
  • Obtain additional training or certification as required.
  • Perform clerical duties, manage phone reception, and assist with patient transport when needed.
  • Assist with training or cross‑training of imaging staff members as directed.
  • Demonstrate self‑motivation and independent judgment, working with minimal supervision.
  • Manage ordering, stocking, and inventory of supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Pass a background check successfully.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.

Education, Licensure, and Certifications Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
  • ARRT registration in Radiology (R) and Mammography (M).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or must obtain within 90 days of hire or transfer).
