Job Summary

The Exhibition Art & Scenic Technician is a hands‑on role responsible for maintaining, repairing, preserving, and improving the scenic and artistic elements within Meow Wolf’s immersive exhibition experience.

This role works with a wide range of guest-facing artwork, scenic finishes, sculptural elements, props, furniture, murals, graphics, mechanical elements, and custom-built installations.

This position is focused on daily exhibition support, routine inspections, maintenance, repairs, fabrication, documentation, and small improvements that help keep the exhibition safe, visually excellent, functional, and aligned with the creative intent of the work.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented maker and problem-solver with experience in scenic fabrication, themed entertainment, immersive attractions, public art, museums, theater, sculpture, props, finishes, or other creative production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily exhibition readiness by completing opening checks, resolving scenic/art issues before opening when possible, and responding to guest-facing art or scenic needs during operating hours.
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, repairs, and touch-ups for scenic, artistic, and guest-facing exhibition elements.
  • Maintain and preserve show graphics, scenic finishes, murals, sculptures, props, furniture, textiles, rockwork, mechanical elements, and other custom installations.
  • Respond to guest-facing art, scenic, safety, or show-quality issues and complete timely repairs when possible.
  • Fabricate, theme, install, or rework exhibition elements to support maintenance needs, guest experience, and ongoing improvements.
  • Work from creative direction, reference materials, drawings, or existing finishes to match the visual intent of the exhibition.
  • Use appropriate tools, materials, paints, adhesives, coatings, sculpting materials, fasteners, and fabrication techniques safely and effectively.
  • Document repairs, maintenance, upgrades, reworks, material choices, and recurring issues in the maintenance/task management system.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized exhibition work areas, back-of-house spaces, and shop areas.
  • Use appropriate PPE and follow SDS, chemical, tool, access equipment, and workplace safety practices.
  • Collaborate with Art & Scenic, Exhibition Technology, Facilities, Operations, Creative, vendors, artists, and other partners.
  • Observe exhibition conditions and guest interaction patterns to recommend improvements that extend the life and quality of scenic and artistic elements.
  • Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of relevant hands‑on experience in scenic fabrication, themed entertainment, immersive attractions, public art, museums, theater, sculpture, props, fabrication, finishes, or similar creative production environments.
  • Experience maintaining, repairing, fabricating, or installing artistic, scenic, or custom-built elements.
  • Familiarity with one or more scenic/art disciplines such as painting, sculpting, carpentry, fabrication, finishes, restoration, installation, mold making, casting, textiles, graphics, or mechanical elements.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, paints, adhesives, coatings, and common scenic/fabrication materials.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair guest-facing damage with attention to safety, durability, and visual quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to match existing finishes, textures, colors, materials, or artistic intent.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, self-management, and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to safe work practices around tools, chemicals, access equipment, materials, and public-facing environments.
  • Formal education is welcome but not required; equivalent professional experience, technical training, portfolio work, or industry certification may all be considered.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in themed entertainment, immersive attractions, theme parks, high‑end escape rooms, museums, public art, theater, live entertainment, or similar environments.
  • Experience with scenic painting, murals, faux finishes, sculpture, mold making, casting, woodworking, metalworking, plastics, textiles, graphics, or prop fabrication.
  • Experience with digital fabrication such as 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, vacuum forming, CAD, or design software.
  • Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Fusion 360, Blender, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience using aerial work platforms, ladders, fall protection, or rigging‑adjacent work.
  • OSHA 10 General Industry or similar safety training.
