Overview
Suitable candidates will have extensive experience crafting detailed, accurate, and high-quality scale models within film, TV, architecture, and/or exhibitions.
Working alongside our creative team, you will utilise various fabrication techniques and materials to deliver precision models of a high calibre.
Based predominantly at our premises in Bristol, the role may require occasional site installation work.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience as a professional Model Maker (5 years+ preferred).
- Strong understanding of scale, proportion, and fine detail work.
- Excellent knowledge of fabrication techniques, materials, and finishes.
- Competent in the use of model-making tools, machinery, basic power & hand tools.
- Ability to work with precision and accuracy under tight deadlines, within budgeted time.
- Good with time management and estimation of required labour time.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in film, TV, architecture, or exhibition work.
- A strong portfolio showcasing previous model-making projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret technical drawings and concept sketches to produce physical models.
- Fabricate models using diverse materials including wood, plastic, metal, foam, and resin.
- Handcraft intricate details using sculpting, sanding, and painting techniques.
- Apply advanced finishing techniques such as airbrushing, weathering, and surface texturing.
- Work closely with art department to achieve project goals.
- Ensure models meet size, proportion, and aesthetic specifications.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations when working with tools, materials, and hazardous substances.
- Bonus Skills
- Ability to operate kit such as 3D printers & laser cutters.
- Experience with animatronics, electronics, or mechanical props.
- Experience with CAD software (Auto CAD, Rhino, Solid Works).
- Degree or diploma in Model Making or similar.
Certification
Due to legislation changes in 2023, all candidates will need to provide Di‑isocyanate Certification.
