Following growth in our portfolio, we are seeking a Europe/AMEA Portfolio Trainee Financial Accountant. A key member of the Modaxo Europe Portfolio Team, you will work closely with the Europe/AMEA Corporate Reporting Controller and Portfolio Accountant, as well as the Portfolio CFO. The team is responsible for ensuring all Financial Reporting required by the Group (Constellation Software Inc. – listed on the Toronto stock exchange) is provided accurately and timely. Modaxo Europe consists of 20 Business Units across Europe and AMEA from the UK and Portugal to the Nordics, Germany to Israel, Africa and South‑East Asia.
This is a hybrid role (expectation is to be in the office at least three days per week at first), the team is based in the UK and France. This role will report directly to the Europe/AMEA Corporate Reporting Controller, based in Chippenham. We offer career progression within Modaxo and expect the postholder to gain experience within the portfolio Finance team and also within the Groups and Business Units, ultimately being promoted to a more senior role within 3-4 years.
Areas of Responsibility
- Accounting: Under the supervision and coaching of the Corporate Reporting Controller and Portfolio Accountant, the successful candidate will help ensure accurate accounting is maintained across the Modaxo Europe portfolio through carrying out such core activities as:
- Learning and performing accounts payable function for the portfolio parent Modaxo Europe A/S legal entity – processing invoices and carrying out related journal postings
- Calculation of regular cross charges from the portfolio function to business units, as well as creation of invoices
- Reconciliation of inter‑company accounts including foreign exchange postings, follow up on outstanding inter‑company account balances to ensure prompt payment
- Controlling and posting of inter‑company journals
- Using initiative with other proactive projects, from time to time, that can enhance the portfolio systems, processes or policies.
- Assisting with the completion and control of Revenue Recognition Checklists, which ensure compliance with accounting standard IFRS 15 on the major deals won by the business units
- Helping with the review and control of other key monthly and quarterly reports and analysis
- Monitoring compliance with Blackline balance sheet reconciliations at month and quarter ends
- Following up with business units and Groups on compliance with internal controls and other parent company and portfolio reporting requests
- Providing Netsuite and Adaptive administrative support.
Profile
- The right candidate is a university graduate, preferably in Accounting/Business/Economics or related subjects (consideration given to other subjects) with strong academic results (2:1 or better at university)
- Accounting work experience/knowledge is preferable but not essential.
- Costs of studying for the CIMA/ACCA examinations and study leave are included in the job package on top of base salary and bonus
- Enthusiastic about learning, developing and applying skills in technical accounting, financial analysis and financial reporting
- Excellent numerical aptitude, strong Excel skills and keenness to learn and use new systems (particularly Netsuite)
- Thrives in working to meet demanding reporting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Fluent in English. Language skills in German or any other European language is an advantage, however not a requirement.

Practical
- Travel opportunities to other business units both in the UK and internationally, as well as expected attendance at European Finance summits (total travel away from home estimated 2-3 times per year for several days at a time)
- The expectation is to be in the Chippenham office for at least three days per week initially, with the potential to decrease this over time, if the successful candidate demonstrates their effectiveness at working independently and remotely.
