Hi! I’m Ryan, the Head of Marketing at Modash. I’m looking for a software engineer to join our marketing team. Here’s background, examples of the work you might do, and what you probably want to know.
Background
Having an engineer in the marketing team has been part of our secret sauce for the past 2–3 years. The role isn’t new, but our current engineer is moving onto new pastures soon. We’re looking for someone to fill his (rather large) shoes.
Scope of the role & example projects
90% of your time will be spent in the Discoverability team, working with Usman. The marketing team is split into three areas: Brand, Product Marketing, Discoverability. “Discoverability” includes initiatives that help Modash get found in search results, mainly SEO & LLM visibility. Here are three examples of what we have built via engineering for SEO purposes:
- Programmatic projects: subfolders in our website containing thousands of templated pages. The main two are:
- /find-influencers/ → lists of influencers in cities, countries, niches, or combinations.
- /content-library/ → a variety of different list/example pages (e.g., influencer collaborations in a category, influencers that have worked with a brand, etc.).
Outside of those projects, the remaining 10% of your time will be spent in other areas of marketing as needed. This lets us move fast without depending on other teams or taking engineering resources away from Product. Here are two examples (non-discoverability):
- Implementing a system that checks user location via IP to display the correct currency on our pricing page.
- Building an AI qualification tool that checks and categorizes a user’s company (using email domain) before allowing them to book time with our sales team.
The technical stuff
The stack is Vite + Vue, deployed to S3 via AWS. From a technical perspective, here are some of the challenges you’ll tackle:
- Build and deployment speed at scale: some projects generate over 10,000 statically built pages. You’ll design smart incremental build and deployment strategies to keep pages up to date without long rebuild times.
- Infrastructure breadth: there are 15+ different tools/projects to understand and maintain. You’ll need to be familiar with them to move fast.
- Memory constraints: everything must be built in a way that stays within memory limits during build and runtime.
Requirements
Required skills and experience
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design
- Experience with Vue or React (or willingness to get up to speed quickly)
- Comfortable with AWS (S3 deployments, infrastructure)
- Ability to ship fast and often; value delivering impact without over-engineering
- Ability to communicate well in plain English
- Willingness to learn whatever the problem/opportunity requires
Nice-to-haves
- Ability to think like a founder; past experience building your own work in business or marketing is a bonus
- Experience with programmatic SEO
- Familiarity with Webflow (programmatic work is not on Webflow, but the main site is)
- Familiarity with large-scale static site builds and incremental deployment patterns
Benefits
What we’re offering
- Flexible working hours. We trust you to do your job without anyone watching over your shoulder
- Unlimited paid vacation time. Take the time you need to enjoy a balanced life
- Fully remote working. Work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection
- Personal development. We’ll cover courses, books, or conferences that help you upskill
- Ownership. You’ll have autonomy to make decisions and take action quickly
