Position Overview
Ocean State Signal is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Traffic Engineer to join our growing team. This role combines strong engineering expertise with client engagement, technical product support, and project collaboration. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted technical advisor to agencies and engineering firms, ensuring proper application, integration, and compliance of traffic control and ITS products within transportation projects. This position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering innovation, public infrastructure, and emerging transportation technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering support on the proper application of traffic control devices and ITS products
- Collaborate with public agencies, consulting engineers, and contractors to integrate appropriate traffic and ITS products into project designs
- Review construction plans and project specifications to apply product solutions.
- Evaluate product compliance with project requirements, agency standards, and industry regulations
- Maintain working knowledge of evolving transportation technologies, standards, and best practices
- Deliver product presentations and technical trainings.
- Support internal sales and operations teams with technical expertise and project guidance
- Stay current with industry standards including MUTCD, ITE, and applicable State DOT requirements
- Attend industry conferences, manufacturer training, and professional development events
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (Transportation emphasis preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering
- Strong knowledge of traffic signal timing, ITS devices, and roadway communication systems
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Self-motivated and client-focused professional mindset
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with State DOTs, municipalities, or transportation consulting firms
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience supporting manufacturer products or providing technical sales support is a plus
