The Head of Training School / Training Development Manager will be responsible for leading and managing Tekever’s training operations. This includes overseeing the design, development, and delivery of training programs for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operators, maintenance personnel, and other relevant staff. The role will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from both the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) while maintaining high standards of operational safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement comprehensive UAS training programs for operators, technicians, and other personnel, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations (CAA, MAA).
- Develop and maintain Training Plans that address operational needs, including Initial Training, Recurrent Training, and Advanced Operations.
- Ensure that training content is tailored to both civilian and military operational environments, addressing both technical skills and regulatory knowledge.
- Create customised training modules for specific UAS types, operations, and mission profiles in line with Tekever’s operational requirements.
- Maintain and continually improve the Training Curriculum to ensure it is up to date with the latest technological advancements, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular assessments and audits of training activities to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Work with the Safety and Compliance Department to incorporate safety management and risk mitigation strategies into training programs.
- Lead and manage a team of instructors, trainers, and support staff, ensuring they are highly skilled and motivated to deliver high-quality training.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional development for the training team.
- Provide leadership in terms of staffing, budgeting, and ensuring the optimal use of training resources.
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement within the training team.
- Mentor and develop future training leaders within the team.
- Liaise with internal departments to ensure training programs align with operational needs.
- Collaborate to align with regulatory and training teams to meet CAA and MAA requirements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external organisations, agencies, and stakeholders regarding training certifications and operational approvals.
- Work closely with HR to recruit, onboard, and retain qualified trainers and support staff.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of training facilities including classrooms, simulation equipment, and any flight training areas.
- Manage the use of flight simulators, training aircraft, and other training equipment to ensure regular testing, maintenance, and compliance with operational standards.
- Track and report on training outcomes, including trainee success rates, competency assessments, and areas for improvement.
- Maintain records of all training programs and certifications issued, ensuring compliance with CAA and MAA regulations.
- Provide regular reports to the Accountable Manager and other senior leaders on training performance, personnel development, and compliance status.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies in UAS training, including simulators, software tools, and new training methodologies.
- Identify areas for innovation and improvement in training delivery, such as integrating new training technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR).
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and development, integrating feedback from trainees and instructors to improve the training experience.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Training Program Development and Management.
- Extensive experience in UAS operations or a similar field, with knowledge of military and civilian aviation.
- Experience in training program development, including course design, delivery, and assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of CAA regulations (e.g., CAP 722), MAA safety standards, and EASA requirements for UAS operations.
- Proven leadership experience in managing a training team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and interact with regulatory authorities, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
- Strong understanding of safety management systems (SMS) and their integration into training programs.
- Experience with flight training simulation tools and other innovative training technologies.
