We are looking for a Product Security Engineer to support the secure design and development of our products across their lifecycle. This role focuses on embedding security into engineering practices, ensuring systems are designed and built securely from the outset. You will work closely with engineering teams in the UK and across Europe to identify and address security risks early, review implementations, and help establish secure-by-design principles. This includes contributing to code review, improving development practices, and supporting a “shift left” approach across both corporate and product environments, including unmanned systems.
Role and Responsibilities
- Review application and product code to identify common security issues, poor practices, and potential vulnerabilities.
- Work with engineering teams to improve code quality from a security perspective, providing clear and practical feedback.
- Collaborate with teams across the UK and Europe to promote consistent and effective secure development practices.
- Support the adoption of secure-by-design and “shift left” principles across the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to architecture and design discussions to identify and mitigate security risks early.
- Help define and promote secure coding standards, patterns, and guidance.
- Assist in integrating security controls into development workflows (e.g. code review, CI/CD pipelines).
- Identify and assess application-layer risks and support their mitigation.
- Support threat modelling and design-level security assessments.
- Work with engineering teams to drive adoption of secure practices in a pragmatic and non-disruptive manner.
- Collaborate with security engineers and analysts to ensure appropriate logging and monitoring of application behaviour.
Skills & Experience
- Experience working in a software engineering or development-focused role, or equivalent practical experience, with exposure to real-world codebases (typically 1–3 years or equivalent).
- Degree in computer science, cyber security, engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience writing and maintaining application code in C-like languages (e.g. C, C++, C#) and Python.
- Ability to read and understand code and identify potential logic or security issues.
- Understanding of common application security risks (e.g. OWASP Top 10) and how they manifest in real code.
- Awareness of secure development practices and software development lifecycles.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git) and development workflows.
- Working knowledge of Linux, Windows, and general software development environments.
- Experience working with embedded or performance-sensitive systems is advantageous.
- Experience working within a software development team or environment is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across distributed teams.
This role focuses on improving security early in the development lifecycle, reducing the likelihood of vulnerabilities reaching production environments. It complements the wider security function by addressing risks at the design and implementation stage.
What we have to offer you
- An excellent work environment and an opportunity to make a difference.
- Salary commensurate with level of experience.
- Company pension contribution matched up to 10%.
- 25 days annual holiday + 8 Bank holidays.
- Medical Insurance.
- Dental Insurance.
- Salary sacrifice initiatives (EV Scheme, Cycle 2 Work, Tech Scheme).
- Discretionary annual company bonus.
