The Health & Safety Manager is a subject matter expert responsible for leading the health and safety agenda across four facilities (rapeseed crush & refinery, soybean crush & refinery, port facility, and power plant) in collaboration with the plant manager. In this role, you will oversee the execution and continuous improvement of health, safety, and process safety management systems at facilities with regulated processes and activities, ensuring compliance and reducing risks related to serious injuries, process safety events, and legal matters.
Key Accountabilities
- Collaborate with the plant manager to maintain external reputation, facilitate community and governmental interactions, and prepare required reports, responses to inquiries, and support inspections, audits, and customer visits.
- Assess contractor support and talent needs, oversee onsite contractor activities, and implement processes to manage local health and safety risks for contractors and service providers.
- Develop and deliver training programs aligned with global, regional, and legal requirements; conduct gap assessments to identify competency needs and adapt curricula to site-specific demands.
- Implement and monitor health and safety controls, programs, and processes such as risk identification, emergency planning, incident management, and audits to ensure effectiveness.
- Partner with plant and project leaders to foster a strong health and safety culture, promoting continuous improvement as a core value.
- Participate in site leadership team discussions, providing guidance on planning, incident response, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Align health and safety goals, metrics, and targets with plant objectives and monitor site performance in collaboration with the plant manager.
- Handle complex issues independently, escalating only the most critical matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience as a health and safety expert in a production environment (e.g., food production, chemical, or petrochemical industry).
- Recognized health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent).
- Proficiency in English.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with food safety industry practices and standards.
- Strong business acumen and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
