Job Purpose:

To safely and efficiently operate a counterbalance forklift within a busy warehouse and yard environment. The role includes loading and unloading HGV vehicles, managing weight distribution, checking freight against manifests, and promoting health and safety standards, including PPE compliance and near-miss reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a counterbalance forklift truck in a safe and responsible manner
  • Load and unload HGV vehicles, ensuring proper weight distribution and load security
  • Scan and verify goods against delivery manifests and pallet tracking systems
  • Handle and store palletised freight in line with Pallet Track procedures
  • Carry out daily forklift pre-use checks and report defects or mechanical issues immediately
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the warehouse and yard
  • Be responsible for personal and team health and safety awareness in the yard and warehouse
  • Report all incidents, hazards, and near misses promptly to the Warehouse Supervisor
  • Ensure full compliance with company PPE requirements at all times
  • Work collaboratively to meet warehouse and logistics deadlines
  • Be flexible with working hours including early, late, and Saturday shifts, with overtime as needed

Key Requirements:

  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence (RTITB or ITSSAR accredited)
  • Proven experience in loading and unloading HGVs
  • Understanding of vehicle weight distribution and load securing techniques
  • Strong attention to detail when checking manifests and scanning goods
  • High level of health and safety awareness, including PPE and manual handling
  • Physically fit and able to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Flexible with working patterns, including weekends and overtime
  • Confident in reporting safety concerns and contributing to a safe working culture

Desirable:

  • Experience working with Pallet Track or similar pallet networks
  • Familiarity with warehouse scanning devices and basic IT systems
  • Awareness of forklift maintenance procedures and manual handling best practices
