We are looking for an Operations Manager to support our team based in Birmingham (Castle Vale). This is a key role responsible for coordinating the movement of goods within a pallet network, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-quality deliveries. You will play a vital part in maintaining strong day-to-day operations while also supporting innovation and continuous improvement across the transport function.
Location: Birmingham, Castle Vale
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £48,000 - £52,000 (depending on experience)
Holiday: 33 days including bank holidays
Working Pattern: Office-based
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm (flexibility required when covering holidays or sickness 6:00am - 3:00pm)
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage daily transport and planning operations within the pallet network, ensuring efficient, timely, and compliant delivery of goods.
- Use Transport Management Systems (TMS), including Vigo, to optimise route planning, scheduling, reporting, and overall operational performance.
- Manage, develop, and motivate a team of drivers, warehouse staff and operational staff to drive high performance, engagement, and productivity.
- Monitor KPIs and service metrics, using performance analysis to drive continuous improvement, increase efficiency, and reduce operational costs.
- Maintain strong communication with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistently high service standards.
- Maintain oversight of operational costs and Profit & Loss (P&L), identifying efficiencies and supporting commercially informed decision-making.
- Work closely with the Compliance Manager to ensure fleet management, vehicle maintenance schedules, and adherence to all transport legislation, including tachograph regulations, the Working Time Directive (WTD), and drivers’ legal hours.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in an Operations Manager/Supervisor role, or a similar senior position within a palletised distribution, planning, or transport network.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with commercial awareness / cost control experience.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced office environment.
- Strong IT experience, particularly with Vigo transport management systems.
Desirable Qualifications:
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification in Operations Manager.
- Degree or relevant qualification in Logistics, Transport, or Business Management.
