Architectural Technician – Building Safety Act (BSA) & Fire

Permanent Reading – Hybrid working.

MBNL deliver the mobile infrastructure that enables digital Britain. This is achieved by providing Property, Infrastructure and Operational services to EE/BT and Three.

The Infrastructure Directorate is accountable for the design, deployment and in life management of site infrastructure to meet safety, service and deployment requirements and enable EE/BT and Three to deliver their best customer experiences at the lowest cost.

In this role, you will be responsible for proactively managing all aspects of site infrastructure design that relates to Fire and Building Safety Act activities, to ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory standards and achieve agreed business outcomes and performance targets set by EE/BT and Three and the risk appetite set by the MBNL Board. Reporting into the Head of Infrastructure Design, this is a key management and leadership role within MBNL organisation.

This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week onsite in our Central Reading office.

What you will be doing:

  • Use in depth knowledge of Building Regulations and fire design principles to identify how the BSA will influence the activities of MBNL as an Infrastructure Manager, when maintaining and deploying telecommunications infrastructure on roof top sites.
  • Advise on and develop requirements, processes and guides to establish how new and legacy sites should be acquired, designed, constructed, and maintained.
  • Develop and deliver material necessary to educate and influence our supplier ecosystem and Shareholders, in the agreed ways of working to ensure legislation, standards and Building Regulations are met.
  • Advocate the agreed way of working with telecom industry partners, site providers, construction industry businesses and regulatory bodies to develop relationships and common approaches to the telecom specific Building Safety requirements.
  • Work with MBNL teams to establish how the data relating to the above requirements should be held and shared with the appropriate parties to satisfy the requirements of Building Safety.
  • Have a forward-looking view on changes and developments in legislation, standards, and Guidance, enabling a strategic approach to Building Safety.

What we are looking for:

  • Expert knowledge of Building Regulations and fire design principles, standards, methodologies, processes, controls, and the capabilities required to act as the lead for fire safety within the built environment.
  • Considerable experience of managing, motivating, monitoring and improving performance of contractors and suppliers.
  • Proven ability of building deep, effective relationships and an understanding of organisational politics. An ability to use these to socialise and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with, briefing, and influencing senior members of leadership teams.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and obligations (including CDM 2015, Building Regulations and Building Safety Act) in the context of infrastructure design.

Nice to have:

  • Experience of managing remotely located, cross-functional teams.
  • Safety/quality/compliance knowledge of mobile or fixed communications network infrastructure.
  • Experience of working in or with a JV organisation.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
