About the role
The Frontline Station Support Officer (FSSO) role provides high-quality customer service at the Front Counter of our Police Stations. This is a frontline position where you will engage daily with members of the public, often in challenging or sensitive situations. All interactions must be managed with professionalism, respect, empathy, and a positive, solutions-focused approach.
As the first point of contact within the station, you will welcome customers, accurately identify their needs, and ensure enquiries are understood and handled efficiently and appropriately. The role requires a strong customer focus, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, can-do attitude. You will work collaboratively as part of a high-performing team and demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to learn.
The FSSO provides essential operational and administrative support to Police, including but not limited to front counter services, data entry, use of Police systems, typing, file management, exhibit management, disclosure support and records maintenance. While the position is primarily front counter–based, the role also supports frontline Police teams across a range of additional portfolios. These portfolios enable role diversity, provide exposure to a broad range of policing functions, and contribute to the effective and timely delivery of frontline operations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver outstanding customer service, including confidently and professionally engaging with challenging individuals in a customer-facing environment.
- Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating a supportive approach and contributing positively across all functions and levels of Police.
- Provide high-quality administrative and practical support to frontline teams and other Police workgroups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear, accurate, and professional information exchange.
- Use computer systems confidently, including NZ Police systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Special requirements
You must hold a current New Zealand driver’s licence (Full preferred but minimum of Restricted). Successful applicant must reside in South Canterbury within a commutable distance to Temuka.

Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $69,337 and $72,430 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
