MMP Consultancy are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing business based near Horley/Gatwick.

This is a senior leadership position with full responsibility for the commercial performance of both the Surveying and Estimating functions, ensuring robust financial control, risk management, and profitable project delivery.

Reporting at Board level, this role offers the opportunity to influence key business decisions while driving commercial best practice across a diverse project portfolio.

Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00

Primarily based in the Horley office, with travel to project sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Commercial Leadership
  • Take full ownership of live project commercial performance.
  • Protect project margins and drive profitability across the business.
  • Lead variation management and change control processes.
  • Oversee subcontract procurement and commercial compliance.
  • Maintain strong cash flow and commercial control across all projects.
  • Deliver accurate commercial reporting to Board level.
  • Surveying Team Management
  • Lead and manage a team of 2 Surveyors and 1 Commercial Administrator.
  • Oversee monthly applications for payment.
  • Manage cash flow processes, including payment and pay less notices.
  • Conduct account reviews and client meetings.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and agree final accounts.
  • Estimating & Pre-Construction Oversight
  • Review tender documentation and contract orders.
  • Ensure a clear understanding of commercial terms and contractual risks.
  • Identify key risks, opportunities, and commercial red flags.
  • Support alignment between estimating, pre-construction, and delivery teams.
  • Commercial Support to Estimating
  • Oversee an Estimating Manager, 2 Estimators, and 1 Junior Estimator.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy across all tenders and estimates.
  • Drive a robust commercial approach throughout pre-construction activities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor position.
  • A background within construction, contracting, or related sectors.
  • Experience managing both surveying and estimating teams/functions.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, commercial strategy, risk management, and financial control.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience presenting commercial information at Board level.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a focus on delivering results.
