Overview
Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Workshop Mechanic to join our busy workshop team in Cassington. Reporting to the Workshop and Fleet Manager, this is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in HGV maintenance and repair, who is also open to working on a variety of vehicles and machinery, including vans, mobile plant, and static plant.
You will play a vital role in keeping our fleet running safely and efficiently. You will support scheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections across our diverse fleet and plant equipment.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out maintenance and repairs on HGVs – skips and RoRo vehicles – as your primary responsibility.
- Supporting work on company vans, mobile plant, and static plant.
- Conducting routine servicing, inspections, and repairs in line with safety and compliance requirements.
- Completing workshop documentation and inspection forms accurately.
- Assisting with monthly mobile plant inspections and ensuring compliance with standards.
- Supporting workshop organisation and cleanliness, including tool and equipment maintenance.
- Occasionally travelling to other sites to carry out inspections or repairs.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years\’ experience as a Workshop Mechanic, specifically working with HGVs.
- Strong mechanical skills and ability to work independently and safely.
- A good team player who can also work on their own initiative.
- Proficiency in English.
- Good level of physical fitness to manage manual tasks safely.
- A positive and enthusiastic attitude with strong communication skills.
- Flexibility to support work across different vehicle types (HGVs, vans, mobile and static plant).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with mobile plant and static plant (e.g., excavators, shredders, conveyors).
- Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent).
- IRTEC accreditation.
- Welding and grinding experience.
- HGV licence (Category C or C+E).
- Capable of managing paperwork accurately and efficiently.
- Familiarity with workshop IT systems or digital inspection tools.
- Comfortable working in the waste industry and in dusty environments.
Hours, Salary & Benefits
Hours: Monday to Friday and every other Saturday morning
