We are currently recruiting a committed and empathetic Behaviour Mentor to work within a trauma-informed secondary school in Cardiff. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, and who understands the importance of relationships, consistency, and emotional safety in education.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will support pupils who may display challenging behaviour linked to trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or additional learning needs. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to help pupils regulate emotions, re-engage with learning, and achieve positive outcomes. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted behaviour and emotional support to pupils
  • Build positive, trusting relationships using trauma-informed approaches
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement, and attendance
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral, SEN, and safeguarding teams
  • Promote a calm, consistent, and inclusive learning environment
  • Support behaviour management strategies in line with school policies

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with young people with behavioural, emotional, or trauma-related needs
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Calm, patient, and resilient with a nurturing approach
  • Confident working in a secondary school environment
  • Experience in education, youth work, care, or mentoring is highly desirable
