We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Lead DevOps Engineer (SFIA Level 5) to join a high-performing engineering team on a 6-month remote contract based in the UK. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cloud-native infrastructure, DevOps automation, CI/CD implementation, container orchestration, and cloud security practices.
This role requires hands-on experience across AWS and Azure environments, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Kubernetes-based deployments, and modern DevOps tooling. Candidates should be comfortable leading technical initiatives, driving automation, and supporting scalable, secure cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure environments
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform
- Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI
- Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes
- Automate operational and deployment processes using Bash and Python scripting
- Manage and monitor cloud-native/containerized workloads for performance, reliability, and scalability
- Implement and maintain cloud security best practices, including IAM and policy-based authorization
- Support API and Web SSO gateway integrations using OIDC/OAuth authentication frameworks
- Collaborate with development, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless DevOps practices
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, and performance-related issues
- Drive DevOps standards, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including: VPC, SageMaker, Lambda, S3, IAM
- Exposure to Azure cloud environments
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience managing containerized workloads in production environments
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Strong scripting skills in Bash and/or Python
- Experience in deployment automation and DevOps process optimization
- Strong understanding of IAM concepts and cloud security practices
- Knowledge of API/Web SSO gateways
- Experience with OIDC/OAuth authentication protocols
- Understanding of policy-based authorization using Open Policy Agent (OPA)
- Experience working in enterprise-scale or cloud-native environments
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineering teams
- Familiarity with SFIA Level 5 responsibilities and delivery expectations
- Candidates must currently reside in the UK or have valid UK work authorization
- Candidates available to join on a 6-month contractual assignment preferred
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills preferred
