Contract: 3 – 4 month interim

MLC Partners are delighted to be supporting a leading London-based higher education institution in the recruitment of an Interim Operations and Facilities Manager. This is a busy, hands‑on role with line management responsibility, overseeing the day‑to‑day delivery of facilities and operational services across a complex, multi‑site campus environment. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring a high‑quality, compliant and customer‑focused service for staff, students and visitors.

The Role

Reporting into senior faculty services leadership, the Operations and Facilities Manager will take ownership of operational delivery across multiple buildings, leading a small team with varying levels of experience. This role requires someone confident, adaptable and comfortable being pulled in multiple directions, while maintaining strong operational oversight and team cohesion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Line management of a small facilities and services team, providing clear direction, support and confidence
  • Overseeing day‑to‑day facilities operations across multiple university sites, ensuring service continuity
  • Acting as the main point of contact for estates, maintenance and external service providers
  • Managing health & safety compliance, inspections and incident reporting
  • Supporting space moves, new starters and operational readiness for teaching and events
  • Driving continuous improvement in processes, service delivery and attention to detail

About You

  • Proven experience in facilities and operations management within a university environment – essential
  • Confident and approachable management style, able to adapt to different personalities and working styles
  • Comfortable being hands‑on and “getting stuck in” when required
  • Strong attention to detail alongside the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Tech‑savvy, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Flexible and resilient, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, changeable environment

This role will ideally suit someone available to work 8:30am–4:30pm, with flexibility around start times between 8:00–9:00am.
