Interim Finance Manager – Closure of Accounts
Local Authority | South East | Hybrid Working (2 days on-site)
Interim Contract | Rate: £500 inside IR35
I am working with a local authority to recruit an experienced Interim Finance Manager – Closure of Accounts to support the Chief Accountant through a key period of financial reporting and year-end delivery.
The role will take responsibility for supporting the closure of accounts and production of notes to the accounts, alongside technical accounting updates, audit preparation and resolving complex accounting queries. A key part of the assignment will be working closely with external auditors and ensuring issues are addressed efficiently and accurately.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting delivery of the statutory year-end accounts and associated financial reporting.
- Preparing and reviewing notes to the accounts and supporting working papers.
- Managing technical accounting queries and ensuring the correct accounting treatment is applied.
- Acting as a key liaison with external auditors and responding to audit queries.
- Undertaking detailed financial analysis to support the year-end position.
- Supporting statutory returns and wider corporate finance requirements.
- Providing financial advice and challenge to senior stakeholders and budget managers.
- Leading and supporting members of the finance team as required.
The ideal candidate
You will be a CCAB/CIMA-qualified accountant with strong local government financial accounting experience and a proven track record of delivering closure of accounts.
You must have:
- Significant local authority closedown and financial reporting experience.
- Local authority experience at Finance Manager level
- Strong technical accounting knowledge.
- Experience working directly with external audit.
- The ability to analyse and resolve complex accounting issues.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Previous experience managing or leading within a corporate finance function.
