A Unique Leadership Opportunity at London’s Largest LGPS Pension Fund

The London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA) plays a pivotal role in managing and safeguarding the pensions of over one hundred thousand of London’s public servants, delivering long-term financial stewardship, investment excellence and responsible governance for future generations.

They are now seeking an exceptional Director of Finance & Corporate Resources (Section 151 Officer) to join their Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and provide strategic financial leadership across the organisation. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced finance professional to step into one of the most influential roles in the local government and pensions landscape — one that blends technical depth, strategic leadership, and purpose-driven impact.

Why Join the LPFA?

At LPFA, they are driven by a clear mission: to deliver secure pensions through strong governance, responsible investment and operational excellence. Joining them means becoming part of an organisation that genuinely values integrity, transparency, and innovation in public finance.

  • High-impact leadership: You’ll work alongside the Chief Executive and Board, shaping the Authority’s strategic direction, managing a multi-billion-pound pension fund, and ensuring sound corporate and financial governance.
  • Strategic breadth: Beyond finance, you’ll lead several key corporate functions, including IT, HR & Organisational Development, Facilities and Projects, giving you influence across the full organisational landscape.
  • Purpose and legacy: Your work will directly contribute to the financial wellbeing of public sector employees and to LPFA’s role as a responsible, sustainable investor for the future.
  • Progressive culture: We foster a collaborative, values-led environment where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged, and where senior leaders work as one team to deliver our shared goals.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will:

  • Lead the Finance and Corporate Resources Directorate, driving excellence across financial management, reporting, compliance and strategic planning.
  • Act as the LPFA’s statutory Section 151 Officer, ensuring the proper administration of all financial affairs in line with the Local Government Act 1972 and CIPFA’s Financial Management Code.
  • Develop and deliver the Medium-Term Financial Plan, annual budget, and statutory accounts, ensuring the highest standards of transparency, accuracy and accountability.
  • Provide expert financial and technical advice to the Board, Audit & Risk Committee and Senior Leadership Team, influencing decision-making at the highest level.
  • Lead cross-cutting corporate programmes and champion modernisation, digital transformation and service excellence.
  • Nurture and develop high-performing teams, embedding a culture of collaboration, integrity and innovation across the organisation.

About You

LPFA are looking for a visionary finance leader who combines technical mastery with strategic insight and a collaborative mindset.

You will bring:

  • A recognised accountancy qualification (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
  • Significant senior-level experience in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment, ideally within local government, the pensions sector, or a comparable public organisation.
  • A proven track record in strategic financial leadership, governance, and risk management.
  • Deep understanding of local government finance, pension fund management, and investment governance.
  • The credibility and political acumen to engage confidently with the Board, auditors, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • A passion for public service and a commitment to the Nolan Principles of integrity, accountability and transparency.

Join Us and Shape the Future of Public Finance

This is more than a senior finance role, it’s a chance to make a lasting impact on the financial security of thousands of people, influence public sector financial strategy at a national level, and be part of a progressive organisation that is redefining what great governance and leadership look like in local government finance.

We are particularly keen to engage with senior finance leaders who have operated at this level within Local Government, who can bring both strategic insight and sector expertise to this pivotal role.

If you’re ready to bring strategic vision, financial rigour, and leadership excellence to an organisation that truly values public service and innovation, we’d love to hear from you.
