Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking an experienced and ambitious senior finance leader for the role of Associate Director of Finance – Financial Accounts and Investments. This is a significant leadership opportunity within a large and complex NHS organisation, offering the chance to take on a broad portfolio spanning financial accounts, strategic finance, business partnering, financial control and investment-related activity. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Finance, the postholder will play a key role in supporting financial sustainability, improving decision-making and strengthening governance across the Trust. This role will suit a technically strong, commercially minded and credible qualified accountant who is looking for a position with real breadth, visibility and impact.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead on statutory financial reporting, annual accounts and external financial returns
- Provide expert advice on accounting standards, NHS guidance and the financial impact of policy changes
- Oversee trust-wide accounting policy, financial controls and governance frameworks
- Support strategic financial planning, modelling, investment appraisal and major business cases
- Lead budget setting and contribute to the Trust’s medium and long-term financial planning
- Develop and strengthen the finance business partnering approach across the organisation
- Oversee key areas including payroll, pensions, financial systems integrity and counter fraud
- Manage senior finance staff, driving performance, development and continuous improvement
About you:
Applicants will be CCAB qualified and educated to degree level, with substantial post‑qualification experience in a large and complex organisation. You will bring deep technical finance expertise, strong leadership capability and the confidence to operate effectively at senior level. You should be able to demonstrate:
- Extensive experience in financial accounts, year-end reporting, planning, forecasting and complex financial modelling
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, statutory reporting and financial governance
- Experience of developing robust financial controls, policies and procedures
- A track record of leading teams and supporting organisational improvement
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex financial issues clearly to a range of stakeholders
- The judgement, resilience and credibility to work effectively in a fast‑paced and politically sensitive environment.
