MKM Building Supplies, the UK’s proper independent builders’ merchant is looking for an enthusiastic Social Media & Content Creator Apprentice to join our team. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make a real impact. You’ll work closely with our in-house team, branches, and external partners to grow our social media presence, helping us maintain our position as the most engaged building supplies brand online.
You\’ll also support key goals such as:
- Growing followers
- Ensuring customers and influencers are talking about (and using!) our products
Alongside the role you will be studying for a level 3 Content Creator apprenticeship.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation
A large part of the role and apprenticeship will be focused on planning, developing and creating audio visual and written content that can be used across a variety of platforms and media, specifically social media.
This will include:
- Understanding the brief and target audience to come up with engaging content ideas for a range of channels, specifically social media
- Briefing graphics into the design team
- Filming content on a phone (phone will be provided)
- Using video edit tools such as CapCut and Instagram Edits to create short video content for social media
- Understanding the difference between organic and ad content and tailoring the content to suit the relevant purpose
- Write engaging on-brand captions
- Schedule and publish content using relevant software such as Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite and content management systems.
- Review performance of content to optimise future content including engagement rate, reach, video views and watch time
Social Media Support
Support the Social Media Lead with managing content on the MKM central social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube and Pinterest
This will include:
- Scheduling content across the channels, adapting for each channel
- Respond to DMs, comments, and queries from both followers and branches
- Monitor brand mentions, tags, and relevant hashtags
- Help grow our online community by actively engaging with accounts and identifying trends
- Stay up to date on social media trends, challenges, and platform changes
- Research competitors\’ strategies
- Help co-ordinate influencer and customer activity to amplify social media reach
- Work closely with the wider team to ensure a social-first approach to campaigns and activity
- Support campaign planning by suggesting content ideas for social media and other channels
- Collaborate with our third-party agency to brief in paid campaigns based on audience type, location, and demographic insights
Branch Support
At MKM Central Support, everything we do is to support our branch network. This role will also involve providing direct support to our branches to help them build and maintain a strong local presence on social media.
This includes:
- Speaking to branches over Teams or in person to provide updates and advice on social media
- Supporting branches with content ideas, localised campaigns, and posting best practices
- Creating or sourcing content specific to the branch
- Acting as the first point of contact for social media-related branch queries
- Provide day-to-day admin support, including account access issues (. locked accounts, password resets) and support with onboarding new team members to social media platforms
- Work alongside the Social Media Lead and Videographer to support content creation during branch visits across our network
Some travel to branches will be required with this role.

- English and Maths qualifications must be completed in line with the apprenticeship rules
