MKM is the leading independent builders’ merchant in the UK, established in 1995. We operate over 135 branches across the country and employ more than 3,200 staff. This role supports the Tool Hire division by building strong customer relationships, promoting sales, and ensuring safe, efficient equipment hire.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain profitable customer relationships, handling complaints, preparing orders, and ensuring safe loading and unloading of tools, plant, and alloy towers.
  • Process sales orders and delivery schedules accurately and promptly.
  • Support company initiatives such as improving customer experience, coordinating Tool Hire reports, and maintaining Health & Safety procedures.
  • Conduct daily and weekly vehicle checks and assist with managing stock levels, including receiving goods, checking delivery tickets, and participating in stock takes.
  • Provide an efficient hire experience, demonstrating exceptional customer service skills throughout the working day.
  • Maintain up-to-date product knowledge and provide specialist advice to customers.

Qualifications

  • Full driving licence – B+E, D1+E categories.
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and procedures.
  • Relevant understanding of the market and product knowledge.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic attitude and commitment to delivering great customer experiences.
  • Good organisational skills to manage stock.

Desirable

  • GCSE Maths & English or equivalent.
  • Experience in a sales/customer focused role.
  • IT literate.
  • HGV driving experience is not essential; newly qualified drivers are welcomed.
  • Previous experience within the Tool Hire industry.
