Our client is a leading M&E contractor with an annual turnover of circa 90 million, delivering high‑profile commercial fit‑out, data centre refurbishment, and critical infrastructure upgrade projects across the UK. The Role
Working as part of a highly skilled technical team, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities from initial concept through to detailed design, commissioning, and project delivery. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex refurbishment and upgrade projects within live critical environments, including data centres and mission‑critical facilities. You will play a key role in ensuring technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle while providing engineering support across the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the assessment of new project opportunities and preparation of fee submissions.
- Develop and produce all necessary mechanical calculations and design solutions from concept and briefing stage through to detailed design.
- Produce and review technical documentation, specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Ensure designs comply with current regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Monitor and support construction activities on site, ensuring compliance with design intent and the high‑quality standards expected by the business.
- Lead and manage critical testing and commissioning activities, including:
- Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
- Black Building Testing
- Mechanical commissioning and performance validation
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, site teams, and wider business stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout project delivery.
About You
- Degree qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within mechanical building services design.
- Strong understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems within critical environments.
- Experience delivering projects within data centres, critical infrastructure, commercial fit‑out, or similar technically demanding sectors.
- Competent in mechanical calculations and industry‑standard design software.
- Knowledge of current British Standards, Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and industry best practices.
- Experience supporting testing and commissioning activities within mission‑critical facilities would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
