A leading multi-national main contractor with a strong presence across the Data Centre, Life Sciences, Advanced Technology and Mission Critical sectors is seeking an experienced Group Head of Commissioning to lead and develop its commissioning function across the business. Based from the company's South Dublin headquarters, you will oversee a large portfolio of projects across Ireland, the UK and Germany, with travel required as necessary. Reporting directly to the Group MEP Director, this is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and implementing the company's commissioning strategy, driving consistency, operational excellence and best practice across all projects. You will play a key role in shaping the future direction of the commissioning function while supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a Group-wide commissioning strategy, standards and governance framework.
- Provide leadership and oversight of commissioning activities across multiple large-scale projects.
- Ensure commissioning requirements are embedded throughout the project lifecycle from design through to handover.
- Drive consistency in systems completion, integrated systems testing (IST), validation and operational readiness.
- Lead, mentor and develop commissioning teams across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
- Support project teams in identifying and mitigating commissioning risks and programme challenges.
- Act as the senior commissioning representative with clients, consultants and key stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, innovation and the adoption of digital commissioning platforms.
- Establish KPIs and reporting structures to monitor commissioning performance across the business.
- Champion the highest standards of health, safety, quality and compliance throughout all commissioning activities.
Requirements
- Significant commissioning leadership experience within major construction, engineering or mission-critical environments.
- Proven track record delivering commissioning programmes on large-scale Data Centre, Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences or Advanced Technology projects.
- Strong technical understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Building Management Systems.
- Extensive knowledge of systems completion, integrated systems testing and operational readiness processes.
- Experience developing commissioning standards, governance frameworks and business-wide procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across multiple projects and locations.
- Strong client-facing, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery principles.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or related discipline).
- Chartered Engineer status and hyperscale data centre experience desirable.
