We are currently working with a leading M&E contractor with a turnover of £250m+ and a strong national presence delivering flagship projects across sectors who are looking for a senior mechanical estimator to join their team. Reporting to an MEP estimator manager you will be based from their head office in Central London, they support a hybrid working arrangement typically with a 3/2 split but there is flexibility on this week on workload and the necessity to attend critical meetings. You will be responsible for managing a team of 2 more junior estimators. You will take full responsibility for preparing competitive tenders, driving value through detailed cost analysis, and supporting successful project acquisition. Working collaborativley with the estimating, commercial, and delivery teams, you will liaise frequently with clients and supply chain partners to ensure accurate and commercially sound submissions. Key Responsibilities • Lead the preparation and submission of mechanical tenders in line with company procedures. • Obtain competitive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure market-aligned pricing. • Identify project risks and opportunities at tender stage and clearly communicate these. • Liaise with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners throughout the tender process. • Prepare detailed cost estimates using appropriate methods and software tools. • Ensure clear and concise tender handovers to delivery teams. • Maintain high standards of documentation, including tender reports and cost breakdowns. • Contribute to the development of robust pre-construction processes and estimating libraries. • Support the training and development of junior estimators. • Engage in business development and contribute to prequalification and bid submissions. Requirements • Proven experience in a senior mechanical estimating role within the building services or construction sector. • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, pipework, plant rooms, and related infrastructure. • Proficiency in estimation software and general IT tools (Excel, Word, etc.). • Solid understanding of contract documents, drawings, and specifications. • Ability to assess site conditions and contribute to accurate cost planning. • Strong communication and negotiation skills. • Excellent attention to detail and methodical approach to documentation. • Flexible, proactive mindset with a collaborative team approach.
