The Mechanical Site Manager will be responsible for managing all on-site mechanical activities, ensuring work is carried out safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This includes coordination of mechanical subcontractors, liaison with the project management and design teams, and maintaining compliance with all H&S and QA procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day mechanical site operations, ensuring smooth progress and compliance with project plans.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors and direct labour on all mechanical installations.
- Oversee installation of HVAC, pipework, drainage, and specialist lab services.
- Monitor progress, quality, and adherence to design drawings and specifications.
- Ensure site safety compliance and maintain high H&S standards (SMSTS essential).
- Liaise with the Project Manager, Design Engineers, and Client Representatives.
- Review technical drawings, raise RFIs, and manage any on-site design queries.
- Conduct regular site inspections, progress meetings, and toolbox talks.
- Manage material deliveries, plant, and equipment requirements.
- Maintain site documentation including RAMS, permits, and QA records.
- Report on site progress, risks, and variations to the Project Manager.
Requirements
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – essential
- Proven experience managing mechanical packages on laboratory or healthcare projects
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services installation and commissioning
- Experience with medical gases – highly desirable
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Strong focus on quality, safety, and programme delivery
- CSCS and First Aid certification desirable
