A well-established and growing building services contractor based in Cheam is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their team. The company delivers high-quality mechanical installations across commercial, residential, leisure, healthcare, and public sector projects.

Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Estimator will play a key role in the pre-construction team, responsible for producing accurate and competitive tenders for mechanical building services projects ranging from £250k to £10m+. This is a strategic role requiring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate mechanical estimates, including HVAC, plumbing, public health, and associated systems.
• Review tender documentation, specifications, and drawings to prepare costs and methodologies.
• Conduct site visits where necessary to gather project information.
• Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, building strong working relationships.
• Develop value engineering solutions and alternative design options to strengthen bid competitiveness.
• Prepare tender summaries, mark-ups, risk registers, and handover documentation for the delivery team.
• Assist with bid interviews, presentations, and client meetings.
• Collaborate with design, commercial, and project teams to ensure smooth pre-construction workflow.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry pricing, materials, and technological innovations.

Requirements

• Minimum 10+ years\’ experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the building services or M&E sector.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical services design principles.
• Proven ability to produce accurate estimates and win successful tenders.
• Excellent commercial and contractual awareness.
• Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office (Excel essential).
• Strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
