MJM Marine is a progressive, rapidly growing specialist joinery and interior fit-out contractor. The business has built a reputation for excellence and innovation by delivering major marine projects for local and global clients. Due to significant growth, the opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join the team.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role within the Commercial Team, taking responsibility for the effective commercial management of projects and helping to ensure that contractual, cost, quality and programme requirements are successfully achieved. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and coordinating commercial reports required for the effective commercial management of projects.
  • Identifying, assessing, raising and pricing variations and change orders.
  • Preparing cost forecasts and reporting costs against value, including detailed Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR).
  • Monitoring project financial performance and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of commercial data and project records.
  • Preparing and submitting accurate and timely payment applications, including all relevant variations and change orders.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, including valuations, payments and final accounts.
  • Supporting the negotiation and settlement of commercial matters with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Working closely with Project Delivery, Procurement and other internal teams to support successful project outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a BSc in Quantity Surveying or other relevant qualification.
  • Have a minimum of five years’ relevant Quantity Surveying experience, ideally within interior fit-out, construction or a related project environment.
  • Be working towards RICS chartered status or another appropriate professional qualification.
  • Have a strong understanding of Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR), including preparation, detailed forecasting and monthly reporting.
  • Have proven experience in the negotiation and settlement of accounts and commercial matters with both customers and suppliers.
  • Have experience in the commercial management of subcontractors and subcontract accounts.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the financial and commercial challenges associated with interior fit-out projects.
  • Possess strong commercial awareness, analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Be a confident communicator with strong negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
