The Role

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for shaping, embedding, and driving a high-performing SHEQ culture across the business. You will not only maintain compliance and standards but also act as a strategic partner to the wider organisation ensuring SHEQ is fully integrated into project delivery, operational decision-making, and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for a confident, commercially aware SHEQ leader who can operate both strategically and operationally. You will bring:

  • Proven experience in a senior SHEQ role within construction, engineering, manufacturing, or a related project-based environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cultural change.
  • Experience working across multiple sites or international projects (desirable).
  • A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with the ability to operate in fast-moving environments.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent) are expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and deliver a forward-looking SHEQ strategy aligned with business objectives and global project delivery. Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on SHEQ risks, performance, and opportunities. Champion a proactive safety culture across all sites, projects, and teams.
  • Operational Excellence: Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of SHEQ management systems (including ISO standards). Ensure robust governance, compliance, and audit readiness across all operations. Drive measurable improvements in SHEQ performance through data, insights, and targeted initiatives.
  • Project & Site Integration: Work closely with project teams to ensure SHEQ is embedded from pre-construction through to delivery. Support international project mobilisation, ensuring consistent standards across multiple locations. Provide practical, hands-on guidance to operational teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Risk, Compliance & Assurance: Oversee risk management processes, incident investigations, and corrective actions. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and client requirements. Lead internal and external audits, ensuring successful outcomes and continuous improvement.
  • People & Capability: Lead, mentor, and develop the SHEQ team to build capability and engagement. Deliver training and awareness programmes to strengthen SHEQ knowledge across the business. Influence stakeholders at all levels to drive accountability and ownership. Lead and support employee health and wellbeing initiatives to ensure appropriate resources and support systems are in place.
  • Performance & Reporting: Establish and track SHEQ KPIs, providing clear and actionable reporting to leadership. Use data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
