Job Purpose: We are seeking a knowledgeable and safety-focused professional to join our Fleet compliance team in a multi-functional role. As a Driver and Trailer Assessor, you will also be responsible for monitoring driver behaviour, ensuring transport compliance, installing telematics and dash cameras, conducting Toolbox Talks, and performing spot checks on vehicle walk‑arounds. This role supports a culture of compliance, safety, and continuous improvement within the fleet operation – flexibility is a must for location worked and on occasion may be required to work in other locations Nationwide to meet business needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Driver & Trailer Assessment: Carry out initial, periodic and reactive assessments of drivers on‑road. Evaluate trailer operations such as coupling/uncoupling, loading safety, and defect checks. Deliver feedback and coaching to improve safety, compliance, and efficiency. Maintain accurate assessment logs and training records.
  • Driver Behaviour Monitoring: Analyse driver behaviour via telematics systems (e.g. harsh acceleration, speeding, braking). Review dashcam footage to identify unsafe practices or incidents. Generate performance reports and provide constructive feedback to drivers. Promote safe driving initiatives and support improvement plans.
  • Telematics Tracker & Dash Camera Installation: Install, configure, and maintain telematics and dashcam units across the vehicle fleet. Perform troubleshooting and basic repairs as needed. Ensure accurate asset tracking and documentation of all installations and services. Liaise with external providers for advanced support and software integration.
  • Toolbox Talks & Safety Briefings: Deliver regular Toolbox Talks on topics. Record attendance and feedback from sessions and follow‑up on actions. Encourage driver engagement and proactive safety behaviour.
  • Plant Spot Checks & Vehicle Walk‑Around Audits: Conduct unannounced spot checks on driver walk‑around inspections to ensure proper defect identification and reporting. Verify completion and accuracy of daily vehicle check logs. Address any failures or oversights directly with drivers and escalate serious issues to management. Support continuous education on walk‑around procedures and legal obligations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in transport operations.
  • Qualified as a Driver Assessor or Instructor.
  • Familiarity with UK transport regulations and fleet compliance requirements.
  • Practical experience with telematics systems and dash camera installation.
  • Proven experience in delivering Toolbox Talks and conducting audits or checks.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and influence.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organisational and reporting skills.
  • Comfortable with technology (hardware/software) and data analysis tools.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and safety awareness.
  • Able to work independently across different locations and environments.
