We are recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator, and we are open to appointing the right candidate at any level between Trainee and Intermediate. Whether you are just starting out or already have 1–3 years’ experience, we will tailor responsibilities and development opportunities to suit your level.
You will support the estimating team in producing accurate, technically compliant, and commercially competitive tenders for mechanical building services projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with or independently prepare mechanical tenders and cost breakdowns.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support take‑offs, bill of quantities, and cost modelling for mechanical systems.
- Research material, labour, and plant costs using supplier quotes and engineering data.
- Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather technical and pricing information.
- Assess HVAC, pipework, public health systems, and plant equipment for cost and compliance.
- Contribute to value engineering exercises and commercial risk assessments.
- Assist with tender submissions, clarifications, and documentation preparation.
- Develop proficiency in industry‑standard estimating software (training provided).
Person Specification
We are open to candidates at two levels:
- Trainee Mechanical Estimator
- Suitable for individuals early in their career.
- Relevant qualification or working towards one (Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Construction, or similar).
- Basic understanding of mechanical building services (HVAC, pipework, plant).
- Strong numerical skills and willingness to learn technical concepts.
- Experience “on the tools” in a mechanical or MEP environment is highly appreciated but not essential.
- No previous estimating experience required—full training provided.
- Intermediate Mechanical Estimator (1–3 years’ experience)
- For those with technical experience in mechanical estimating or MEP.
- Experience producing take-offs, costings, or working within building services engineering.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Good understanding of HVAC, pipework, public health systems, or plant rooms.
- Hands‑on mechanical/MEP experience on the tools is preferred and considered a strong advantage.
Additional Requirements (all levels)
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and problem‑solving mindset.
- Capable of obtaining an enhanced DBS prior to start date.
- Legal permanent right to work in the UK.
