DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Asset Management department is a key part of the logistics function, a shared service for the MJ Quinn Telecoms and Energy divisions. The department ensures that testing equipment and assets for use by in-field engineers are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant regulations.
The department consists of two main areas: an Audit team, responsible for in-field auditing of engineers and their equipment, and the Service Centre Tooling Workshop, responsible for the testing, maintenance, repair, and calibration of equipment.
JOB OBJECTIVE
The Tooling Workshop Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Tooling Workshop, with the aim of delivering world-class services and creating a dynamic, forward-thinking team.
They will be responsible for overseeing the testing, maintenance, repair and calibration of equipment within the workshop, to ensure compliance with regulations and to meet the business needs.
The Tooling Workshop Manager will work to develop a technically capable team, who are able to deliver a high level of customer service and a cost-effective operation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Line management of the workshop technician team, including provision of coaching and the management of workload, performance and absences
- Developing the technical capability of technician team, through the provision of internal and external training, to facilitate in-house fault finding and enhance repair capabilities
- Ensuring all workshop activities are carried out in accordance with the relevant Health and Safety regulations
- Ensuring all equipment and assets are fit for purpose and in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements
- Implementing and monitoring processes for corrective and preventive maintenance, fault finding, calibration, testing and repair of equipment
- Ensuring the accurate recording and scheduling of maintenance and servicing activities in the relevant IT database/system
- Delivering a high level of customer service to in-field teams, through the provision of a technical support helpline, fault rectification guides/videos for engineers and timely fulfilment of requests for replacement equipment
- Managing the workload of the technician team, to minimise the items in quarantine and maximise the availability of fit-for-purpose equipment
- Ensuring that all company-owned assets are appropriately labelled/tagged, serialised and tracked in the relevant IT system(s)
- Liaising with key suppliers for provision of equipment services (including repair, servicing and calibration), training and technical support
- Monitoring the costs and performance within the workshop, including cost of repairs, spare parts, technicians’ time and time/motions studies of workshop activities, to drive efficiencies
- Ensuring availability of spare parts and consumables to facilitate the equipment repair activities
- Coordinating the process for issue of replacement assets and provision of return labels for return of faulty items, including a verification check for pick accuracy
- Through having the Train the Trainer accreditation, coordinating technician training on new equipment or technology and providing refresher training for relevant courses
- Providing hands-on technical assistance for repair and calibration activities
- Developing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators for repair and calibration, customer service levels and pick accuracy
- The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
EXPERIENCE
To be successful in this role the Tooling Workshop Manager will have:
- Experience working within a repair centre/workshop environment
- At least 3 years of line management experience
- Demonstrated experience working according to key health and safety and regulatory requirements for equipment inspection and calibration
Desirable:
- Telecommunications industry experience
- Experience working with Telecommunications test equipment
- Equipment PAT testing and calibration experience
SKILLS
To be successful in this role the Tooling Workshop Manager will:
- Understand and demonstrate good leadership skills
- Organisational, planning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the business and with external parties
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Excel and Outlook
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to changes in a proactive manner
Desirable:
- Technical capability to carry out fault finding and repair on Telecommunication testing equipment
- Ability to analyse data and generate reports to track and improve department performance
- SAP S4HANA system experience
- FLT licence
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 GCSE passes (grade C or 4), including English and Maths
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Train the Trainer accreditation
- Educated to A-level or degree standard
- Technical training in usage of Telecommunications testing equipment
- Health and Safety qualifications, e.g. IOSH Managing Safely
- PAT Testing certification
