DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Project Management Department is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering projects that meet organisational goals, client expectations, and regulatory requirements. The team oversees the full project lifecycle — from initial scoping and budgeting to execution, monitoring, and final handover.

JOB OBJECTIVE
The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for supporting the delivery of a portfolio of Telecoms Decommissioning (Decom) sites and work packages, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within cost, and to required quality standards. The role provides direct support to the Project Manager in managing customer relationships, coordinating internal and external stakeholders, and driving operational excellence across telecoms decom works.

Hours of Work: Monday-Friday 08:00am – 17:30pm
Rate of Pay: Dependent on experience
Work Location: Southampton (Hybrid)
Travel Requirements: Site visits required
Holiday Entitlements: 33 days including Bank Holidays

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Delivery
    Support the Project Manager in delivering a portfolio of Telecoms Decommissioning work packages to programme, cost, quality and safety targets. Assist with planning, change control and coordination of internal teams and the supply chain. Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
  • Financial & Commercial Support
    Support financial management of work packages (typically up to £15k). Assist with cost, revenue, variations and forecast monitoring. Support best practice commercial management in line with procedures.
  • Safety, Health & Wellbeing
    Support delivery of Zero Harm across all projects. Promote safety standards and continuous improvement with site teams and supply chain. Encourage effective health and safety reporting and learning.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Management
    Support customer relationship management during project delivery and change control. Assist in managing customer expectations and repeat business opportunities. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consultants & Supply Chain
    Support management of external consultants to ensure value‑driven delivery. Coordinate supply chain activities to ensure safe and effective delivery.
  • Reporting & Performance
    Support project reporting on progress, risks and issues. Assist delivery of lean visual management and continuous improvement processes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Previous experience supporting or managing works across a portfolio of Telecom sites, ideally with decommissioning exposure. Strong organisational, planning and coordination skills. Effective communicator, capable of supporting customer and stakeholder relationships. Good financial awareness to support cost control and commercial targets. Positive, proactive approach with a strong focus on safety and sustainability. Valid and appropriate CSCS Card. SMSTS qualification (or working towards). Relevant technical or construction qualification desirable.
