EMEA CIB Credit Risk (CIB CR)’s principal responsibility is to maintain and monitor the quality of that part of the lending book falling within its jurisdiction of EMEA (Europe, Africa and the Middle East), in accordance with Bank policy and the procedures contained in standard instructions. This role will support this activity and sit within Group 1 of the CIB CR team. Group 1 comprises two teams, primarily responsible for (1) sponsor coverage (LBO financing (sector agnostic), private credit‑funded acquisition finance, subscription facilities, related derivatives), and NBFI / FIG (including fund‑level lending & FX, CLO warehousing, insured finance), and (2) Counterparty Credit Risk including contingent risk, market analytics and stress testing for the Markets business.

Specifically, CIB CR will:

  • Approve credit / risk lines up to the approval level of the General Manager / Head of Department.
  • Review and provide a recommendation to Head Office or the Head of Region on credit requests above the approval level of the Department.
  • Review and monitor the loan portfolio to maintain a balanced and quality‑driven asset base.
  • Disseminate and ensure compliance with bank credit policy, regulatory requirements and local laws.
  • Act as a point of reference and maintain a constructive and supportive relationship with the Branches for all credit and lending related matters.

The ideal candidate for this role is delivery focused with a thorough understanding of credit analysis techniques, and an excellent track record of analysing information to present sound recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a thorough analysis of credit applications for securitisation transactions, which includes securitisation of auto loans and trade receivables, CDOs, warehouse financings, loan‑on‑loans structures and other types of securitised products.
  • Support the credit analysis and due diligence of certain transactions covered within the NBFI team with similar asset‑based financing structures.
  • Prepare credit reports and recommendations to Senior Management enabling a final credit judgement to be made.
  • Attend bank meetings and/or make on‑site visits to gain a better understanding of the credit.
  • Monitor developments across allocated product and industry sectors identifying major risk factors and bring these to the attention of Senior Management.
  • Conduct credit reviews and assess internal ratings on a regular as well as an ad‑hoc basis.
  • Liaise with, and provide guidance to the business on all credit related matters.
  • Act as a direct interface between CIB CR team and the respective front‑office origination and portfolio management teams.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Advanced credit analysis and research skills (including cash flow analysis / modelling / stress testing) for securitised products ideally gained in a mainstream‑banking environment.
  • Sound knowledge of rating agency methodologies and their application to transactions.
  • Experience of lending to and analysing corporate finance propositions in the EMEA region, with focus on structured and securitisation products.
  • Desire and willingness to expand responsibility to support analysis and review of other structured products.
  • Solid understanding of financial markets and an awareness of macroeconomic risk factors that impact asset performance and credit risk.
  • Lead credit due diligence calls with clients, shape deal structures and inform risk appetite.
  • Ability to fully understand and interpret balance sheets, P&L accounts and cash flows.
  • Good oral and written communication / presentation skills and ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Computer literate on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a time‑constrained and cross‑cultural environment.

Desirable (useful but not essential):

  • Degree educated with an ability to learn quickly.
  • Previous formal credit control experience or some form of formal credit and/or accountancy training.
  • Knowledge of EMEA legal and regulatory systems.
  • Knowledge of the Mizuho Bank culture, philosophy, structure and policies.
