We are seeking to recruit an experienced solicitor with Employment Law expertise to join our Legal team based in our London office, who has knowledge of United Kingdom (UK) employment laws, rules and regulations that are applicable to global investment banks. Experience with and awareness of applicable European Union (EU) employment law is ideal.

The successful candidate will support the international offices of Mizuho Greenhill, providing expert legal advice on the Company’s compliance with a wide variety of employment-related laws and regulations, as well as employment litigation support. You will apply these laws in day-to-day situations, and give real-time, practical, and actionable advice to business clients across our international offices.

This is a hybrid role and based in our UK office.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of the Litigation & Employment team of Legal for Mizuho Americas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary employment lawyer for each of the Greenhill international offices.
  • Partner with and advise HR colleagues by providing timely and practical advice on a wide variety of employment, contractual, labor, benefits, performance management, leaves, non-solicitation, non-competition, restrictive covenant, termination, and classification matters.
  • Advise on new hire offer contracts, including executive employment agreements.
  • Partner with HR and outside immigration counsel to manage visa and other immigration matters.
  • Provide legal advice to HR and other internal stakeholders on employment-related policies, processes, and templates to reflect applicable laws and regulations.
  • As a member of the Legal Division “Litigation & Employment Team”, you will provide legal support on employment litigation and investigation matters (including leading internal investigations).
  • Provide advice to streamline employment processes and practices while remaining compliant with applicable law.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, and proactively prepare to comply with changes in all aspects of the employment life cycle.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned by your manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 5-6 years Post Qualified Experience (PQE) solicitor.
  • Bachelor of Laws from an accredited law school in the U.K. or EU.
  • Extensive experience in UK and EU employment law (ideally within a law firm or financial institution). Detailed, country-specific substantive law background is not required for every jurisdiction within the coverage area.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate laws, rules and regulations into practical business solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at presenting legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and regulatory databases covering UK and European law.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
