As our Southampton Team Lead you will manage, inspire and expand a regional ecology team, overseeing the delivery of complex ecological projects from initial appraisal through to final outputs. You will balance day‑to‑day technical delivery with leadership, mentoring, and commercial activity—shaping bids, coordinating resources and ensuring work meets regulatory, environmental and quality standards. You will represent the region within Tetra Tech’s national Nature team and contribute to strategic growth.

Your Impact in this position

You will strengthen client relationships, raise technical standards, and grow market share in the South East. By mentoring staff and embedding best practice you will improve project outcomes, create career pathways for ecologists, and directly influence the delivery of sustainable, evidence‑based solutions for our clients.

Core Capabilities

  • Team Development: Lead, mentor and line‑manage ecologists; oversee timesheets, pastoral care and professional development to build a resilient, high‑quality team.
  • Client Engagement: Win and retain work through strong relationships; position Tetra Tech as a trusted ecological adviser across public and private sectors.
  • Project Leadership: Take an active role on projects, guide junior project managers, and ensure timely, technically robust delivery.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide high‑level ecological input (EcIA, HRA, EIA reporting), quality‑assure outputs, contribute to inquiries and expert witness work, and champion best practice.
  • Business Growth: Identify and pursue commercial opportunities, contribute to bids and tenders, and support strategic development of the Nature department.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Degree in a relevant discipline, full CIEEM membership; Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist preferred. Proven ecological consultancy experience, commercial awareness, full driving licence and demonstrable leadership capability.

Working Environment

Flexible, hybrid working with time in office, field and client sites as required. Tetra Tech supports compressed/reduced hours and flexible patterns; some travel across the region and occasional national work expected.
