Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a member of the Safety Management team you will provide CDM safety management services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, acting as Principal Designer, Principal Designer Support and Client CDM Adviser. You will also deliver general health & safety advisory services across sectors including residential, healthcare, defence, transport, government, environmental, commercial and education. You will integrate with the TCE operating unit to support project delivery, inspections, training and regional business development.

Your Impact in this position

You will ensure compliant, risk‑based design and construction practices that protect workers and end users. Your input will shape safe designs, influence contractor methods, reduce risk on site and support clients to meet statutory duties. As a senior adviser you will mentor colleagues, deliver training and contribute to growing regional capability and revenue.

Core Capabilities

  • CDM Duty Delivery: Fulfil Principal Designer duty holder responsibilities under CDM 2015 and provide client CDM advisory services.
  • Health & Safety Management: Lead construction and occupational H&S management, policy interpretation and practical implementation.
  • Inspections & Assurance: Undertake site H&S inspections, audits and provide clear, actionable advice and reports.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Confidently liaise with clients, designers, contractors, principal contractors and workers to influence safe outcomes.
  • Business Development & Leadership: Support tendering, tender development, client relationships and mentor team members to build regional capability.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Substantial experience as Principal Designer and Client CDM Adviser under CDM 2015 and proven general H&S advisory experience. NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) required; professional membership (IOSH, IIRSM or similar) and evidence of CPD essential. Defence sector experience and training delivery desirable. Full clean driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle required.

Working Environment

Northern regions role with hybrid working: a balance of home, office and regular site visits. Expect frequent on‑site presence for inspections and client meetings with periodic office days for collaboration. Flexible working arrangements considered to meet project needs.
