Role Overview

This role supports the strategic, client and sector origination and execution priorities of the Infrastructure team.

As a senior member, you will support the delivery of ESFO’s mission, vision, goals and strategies, and operate as a product expert in the originations, structuring, and execution of project finance products within the Infrastructure sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute high‑profile or strategically critical client transactions and negotiations at the most senior levels, ensuring client and MUFG strategic objectives are met.
  • Manage day‑to‑day client or counterparty interactions within the project finance area, identifying and understanding client needs to develop and originate product solutions.
  • Manage debt and advisory deal negotiations within specified limits for less complex projects.
  • Analyse and interpret complex financial and market data to understand product performance and potential impact.
  • Manage the credit application process and present credit cases to internal audiences, developing compelling business rationales to enable transactions.
  • Review documentation and account for appropriate sign‑off within ESFO, ensuring further action as required.
  • Accountable for the effective management of the deal team’s performance, ensuring compliance with governance policies and procedures.
  • Represent MUFG at industry forums to share insights and expertise.
  • Assist in the development of junior team members through collaborative work on deal opportunities and developmental feedback.
  • Lead ESFO projects, setting short‑term objectives to maximise sales and revenue generation in line with ESFO goals.
  • Contribute to GCIB projects and business development activity, including marketing initiatives and pitch opportunities in line with GCIB objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key high‑profile clients or counterparties, providing the highest standards of advice and service.
  • Work in partnership with MUS(EMEA) and GCIB colleagues across all regions, sharing best practice and delivering an integrated global service to clients.
  • Facilitate the marketing and origination of transactions within your area of specialism, ensuring all recommendations and final decisions around structure, credit, pricing, execution and commitment are made by a MUS employee or a functional dual‑hat employee.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Extensive relevant industry experience with a deep conceptual understanding of project finance.
  • Experience leading at a senior level, interpreting and delivering against strategic objectives.
  • People‑management experience and strong coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of credit, risk management, market and legal aspects of project finance.
  • Excellent demonstrable knowledge of the competitor landscape within project finance, specifically within the Infrastructure sector.
  • Strong networking and influencing skills, with political awareness and acumen.
  • Complex problem‑solving skills and a structured, logical approach to work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate and implement the vision and strategy for the Infrastructure department.
  • Results‑driven, with a strong sense of accountability and a proactive, motivated approach.
  • Ability to operate with urgency and prioritise work accordingly.
  • Strong decision‑making skills, demonstrating sound judgement.
  • Creative and innovative approach to work.
  • Ability to manage large workloads and tight deadlines, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong numerical skills and excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Understanding that the role is non‑functional; you will not transact on behalf of a MUS legal entity; all final decisions on structure, credit, pricing, execution and commitment must be made by a MUS employee or a dual‑hat employee.
