We are seeking a technically strong and commercially aware Assistant Manager Financial Accounting to join our finance function in London. This is a broad, high-impact role spanning financial reporting, balance sheet governance, tax support, internal controls and finance process improvement. You will work closely with senior finance leadership and HQ, gaining exposure across statutory reporting, cash flow performance and finance transformation initiatives. The position offers a clear pathway into a senior finance leadership role within a global engineering organisation.
The Role
- You will play a cross-functional role across financial reporting, accounting policy, tax and internal controls, contributing to the efficient operation and long-term sustainability of the finance function.
Financial Reporting Governance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for HQ reporting and statutory filing.
- Analyse financial results, explain key movements and provide insight to management.
- Act as key contact for external and internal audit processes.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP and statutory requirements.
Balance Sheet Cash Flow Management
- Own balance sheet integrity, reconciliations and control.
- Monitor accruals, provisions and suspense accounts, ensuring timely resolution.
- Analyse working capital and cash flow trends to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Support initiatives to enhance cash conversion and financial discipline.
Tax Statutory Compliance
- Support corporate tax calculations and filings.
- Review VAT returns and ensure compliance with UK tax regulations.
- Liaise with external advisors and support tax audits or enquiries.
Finance Process Systems Improvement
- Support design and enhancement of internal controls and finance processes.
- Identify inefficiencies and control gaps, proposing practical improvements.
- Contribute to finance system optimisation and automation initiatives.
- Promote standardisation and use of digital tools (Power Platform, RPA, AI where appropriate).
Business Partnering Projects
- Provide financial and cash flow insight to management.
- Support cross-functional initiatives across accounting, treasury and tax.
- Deliver ad-hoc analysis and HQ reporting requirements.
About You
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline.
- ACCA or CIMA qualified or part-qualified.
- 3-4 years experience in a professional accounting firm (Big 4 or similar), or 5+ years experience in industry within financial, project or managerial accounting.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Understanding of corporate tax and VAT principles.
- Experience with SAP (R/3 or S/4HANA) or similar ERP.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Exposure to Power BI, Power Query or Power Automate desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly.
- Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience reviewing work and supporting colleagues' development is advantageous.
