Mitra Bio is building the future of skincare through epigenetics, longevity science, and data. Backed by Khosla Ventures, Illumina, and Innovate UK, we help people better understand their skin over time using simple, non-invasive skin sampling and advanced data analysis. Our goal is to make highly personalised skincare more effective, accessible, and science-driven.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Principal Data Scientist - Precision Biomarkers in Skin Health to play a pivotal role in shaping our scientific platform, leading client-facing scientific projects and helping translate breakthrough research into products used by global skincare and pharmaceutical companies. Reporting to the Head of Data Science, you'll work at the intersection of skin biology, bioinformatics and AI to discover novel biomarkers, develop predictive models and translate complex biological datasets into scientific insights and customer-facing products.
This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role for someone who sees data as more than numbers. You enjoy uncovering the biological story within complex datasets and communicating those insights through scientific writing, publications, presentations and conversations with clients and collaborators.
We're looking for someone who has built their career by combining biology with bioinformatics. Ideally, you've worked in skin biology, dermatology, melanoma, ageing or a closely related field, and understand both the biological questions and the computational approaches needed to answer them. Beyond technical expertise, you'll work directly with skincare, pharmaceutical and research partners to design studies, interpret complex datasets, present scientific findings and communicate discoveries through reports, publications and conference presentations.
This is a flexible hybrid role, and you'll be expected to work regularly from our West London office.
About you
You're a scientist first, with deep computational expertise. You probably began your career in biology, molecular biology, genetics, dermatology or another life science before specialising in bioinformatics or computational biology. Ideally, you've built your expertise in skin biology, dermatology, skin ageing, melanoma or a closely related area, giving you a deep understanding of both the biology and the computational approaches needed to generate meaningful insights.
You don't just analyse data. You enjoy interpreting it, connecting it back to biology, and communicating the story it tells. Whether you're writing a publication, presenting to a client or discussing results with colleagues, you're able to turn complex analyses into clear, evidence-based scientific narratives that inform research, power products and help clients make better decisions.
You should apply if you have:
- An MSc, PhD or equivalent industry experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics or a related discipline
- A strong background in skin biology, dermatology, skin ageing, melanoma or a closely related field
- 5+ years' experience developing bioinformatics and ML solutions
- Deep experience analysing NGS, DNA methylation and other high-dimensional omics datasets
- Strong Python skills and experience developing reproducible bioinformatics workflows
- Experience designing scientific studies or analysing clinical research datasets
- Experience working directly with external clients, collaborators or commercial partners
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience writing scientific reports, publications, conference abstracts or white papers
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex science to both technical and non-technical audiences
- The ability to independently lead scientific projects from concept through delivery in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
