The Caretaker will play a vital role in ensuring the West Yorkshire Police Training Facility remains safe, operational, and well‑maintained. This position combines hands‑on maintenance work with day‑to‑day caretaking duties, supporting the smooth running of a busy and high‑profile environment. The ideal candidate will take pride in keeping the site in excellent condition, responding to issues promptly, and helping maintain a professional and secure setting for staff, officers, and visitors.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • General Maintenance
    • Carry out routine repairs and maintenance across the facility, including plumbing, joinery, basic electrical tasks, painting, and general building upkeep.
    • Conduct regular inspections of the premises to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.
    • Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and extend the life of equipment and building systems.
    • Support external contractors on site, ensuring work is completed safely and to required standards.
  • Caretaking & Facilities Support
    • Maintain external areas such as car parks, walkways, and training grounds.
    • Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and equipment preparation for training sessions.
    • Monitor stock levels of maintenance supplies and request replenishment when needed.
    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and urgent issues raised by staff.
  • Health, Safety & Security
    • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety regulations and site procedures.
    • Report hazards, defects, or security concerns to the Facilities Manager.
    • Support emergency procedures, including fire alarm checks and evacuation drills.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and inspections.
