Building Surveyor - South East England

To undertake Building Inspections under SFG-20 88-04 Specification (excI. Structural) across the DWP estate. To produce the required outputs and reports against Buildings and Systems. Report on any remedial actions and any immediate fixes required to avoid failure downtime. To highlight any H&S issues that arise during the survey in the correct and appropriate manner.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Building Inspections across the UK encompassing MEP Systems, FFE, aesthetics and Fabric elements.
  • Use the supplied software to accurately record any remedial actions and any H&S risk.
  • Confidently identify and report on any asset/system discoveries by reviewing the asset register.
  • Have a clear understanding of asset whole lifecycle, and contribute to the contract FMR.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of asset compliance requirements.
  • Report on any obvious signs of lack of maintenance on assets.
  • Liaise with the Asset Management team on the outcome of successful surveys through the change control process.
  • Manage and plan site access with Mitie and DWP support.
  • Complete duties in line with the H&S at Work Act 1974 and comply with all relevant codes of practice.
  • Have an understanding and awareness of SFG20, technical and legislative requirements and standards in relation to the role.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of MEP asset maintenance and operation.
  • Knowledge of core building systems e.g. HVAC.
  • Time served in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
  • Good working knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical MRO.
  • Time served/apprentice, ideally trained in a similar position with appropriate City and Guilds/NVQ Level 3 Mechanical or Electrical 18th Edition.
  • Full knowledge of MEP asset association e.g. Water cooled chiller and Cooling Tower System.
  • Familiarity with CIBSE Guide M.
  • Knowledge of PPM generation and efficiencies.
  • Knowledge of Building Fabric.
