About the Role

Mitie is seeking reliable and dedicated Reassurance Officers to join our team on an exciting new contract with South Western Railway. This unique role is based onboard SWR services and involves actively engaging with the public, ensuring safety and compliance with Railway Byelaws. You will play a vital role in maintaining a secure environment, offering reassurance to passengers, and supporting railway staff where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol trains across the SWR network to monitor compliance with Railway Byelaws
  • Provide a visible, reassuring presence onboard trains and at stations
  • Engage with members of the public to promote safety and prevent antisocial behaviour
  • Support railway staff with any incidents or enforcement needs
  • Respond promptly and professionally to onboard or station-based emergencies
  • Handle and operate body‑worn video cameras in line with protocol
  • Report and document incidents, including preparing statements for submission to British Transport Police
  • Assist with the removal of non‑compliant or disruptive individuals from trains or stations as required
  • Provide excellent customer service to passengers, offering information and assistance
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety and site‑specific operational procedures
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as requested by senior staff or station management

  • Valid and in‑date SIA Door Supervisor Licence (required)
  • Previous experience in transport, public‑facing security, or law enforcement preferred
  • Confidence in dealing with challenging situations professionally and calmly
  • Strong communication skills with a customer‑focused approach
  • Ability to work independently while following procedures
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
