Job Description

• Planning and Organising – carry out internal and external painting and decorating as instructed by management.
• Preparation work to walls to make them ready for decoration, including minor repairs to surfaces and structures.
• Undertake minor repair works and use all relevant tools within safety guidelines.
• Erect access equipment and temporary screening as required, ensuring compliance with H&S guidance.
• Monitor decorating material stock and request new stock as necessary.
• Remove paint with appropriate equipment.
• Prepare areas for decoration, safely moving heavy equipment such as fridges, filing cabinets and tables.
• Interpret instructions, drawings and specifications without supervision.
• Maintain hand and power tools, workshop equipment safely and effectively, delivering good standard workmanship.
• Respond to client/customer tasks promptly and deliver high standard work.
• Provide support and input into projects as required.
• Notify line manager of complaints or discrepancies.
• Ensure works are within approved budget and equipment is utilised and kept clean.
• Attend site induction and training courses per Mitie QHSE policy.
• Complete all works in a safe manner, wearing PPE and uniform, ensuring time sheets are completed correctly.
• Follow local procedures, liaise with site management on building related issues.

Qualifications

• Must hold a recognised qualification or have a minimum of 3 years checkable experience in painting.
• Preferable to have served a recognised apprenticeship.
• A full driving licence is preferred but not essential.
• Organised, able to meet deadlines and self‑motivated; a team player.
• Conversant with relevant legislation and compliance issues.
• Good knowledge of all aspects of Health & Safety.
• Positive “Can‑Do” approach, good customer service skills.
• Capable of carrying out all duties associated with the role of painter/decorator.

Health and Safety responsibilities

• Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times.
• Report any deficiencies in systems of work or equipment.
• Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly.
• Report any QHSE issues to line manager or via the divisional incident reporting system.
